Friends of Oregon Badlands Wilderness ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION AND DESCRIPTION

The mission of Friends of Oregon Badlands Wilderness (F.o.B., the Fobbits) is to restore, protect and preserve the Oregon Badlands Wilderness, engaging individuals in the community in education and restoration projects while at the same time deepening their connection with the landscape and building their support for wilderness.

The Oregon Badlands Wilderness is located approximately 15 miles east of Bend and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

The Wilderness is highlighted by rugged high desert features, volcanic formations and ancient junipers.

Friends of Oregon Badlands Wilderness volunteers created an informal partnership with the BLM and helped to have this study area become a fully protected Wilderness March 30 2009.

By teaming up with the BLM, Friends of the Badlands Wilderness receives expert guidance and is able to focus its attention on vital tasks such as monitoring boundaries, native plant restoration, sign maintenance, and public outreach. As the eyes, ears, and hiking boots on the ground of the BLM , the Friends have helped to secure fully protected Wilderness designation for this precious high desert jewel.
