How to introduce automated unit tests in legacy apps

Here's a common problem: you'd like to adopt agile techniques, but your project has been around for a while and doesn't have the automated tests that practices like continuous integration and refactoring require. How do you write tests for code that wasn't written with testing in mind? Daniel Wellman of Cyrus Innovation will share some of his experiences and offer some useful tips and techniques for developers struggling with testing the untested. There will also be time at the end for group discussion and sharing of experiences.

Speaker:

Daniel Wellman provides advocacy and coaching to the developers of Cyrus Innovation on topics ranging from technology and software design to team dynamics. He has over ten years' front-line development experience in XP/Agile environments. His technical interests include languages such as Java, Scala, and Ruby and various flavors of design such as TDD, OOP, and now functional programming. Daniel frequently tweets about technical topics (Twitter handle: @wellman) and blogs at blog.danielwellman.com.
