Thoughts exchange night: Interpreting 存 (cún)—existence, presence, being

Details

🎉 Hey guys! Hope you all doing well!
Let’s launch this round with a heavyweight: Interpreting “存” (cún)— literally meaning to exist, presence, being —from ancient Chinese philosophy, and seeing how it resonates with Western existentialist thought 🌱🌀

Think freely: How does it weave into philosophy, language, spirituality, or even daily life? We’ll riff on phrases like: “存其心,养其性” (Mencius: “Preserve your heart, nurture your nature”); “操则存,舍则亡” (“If you hold it, it exists; if you let go, it perishes”—Confucius on the heart-mind); etc.

Cross-cultural echoes: Heidegger’s “being-toward-death”, Sartre’s “existence precedes essence”, Beauvoir’s “one is not born, but becomes a woman”, and Camu’s “absurdity, rebellion, the why of being”, so on and so forth.
🤯 So—what does it mean to be? Is it choice? Consciousness? Breathing? Becoming?

Come and join the conversation 🎤
