Beach Walk and a Hike in Summerland

Details

This is a 6.5 mile easy to moderate hike with 800 feet of elevation gain.

Due to Covid-19, I am limiting this hike to 7 people with no guests. Each person must maintain a distance of 6 feet or more, and wear a mask when necessary.

We will start promptly at 9:15

From the Loon Point parking lot, the trail will take us down to the sandy shore where we will walk a mile on an isolated beach with views of sandstone cliffs, mossy rocks, and perhaps remnants of oil fields and piers that at one time stood there.

This stretch of beach will lead us to Lookout Park with real bathrooms then through the town of Summerland. Typically we would have breakfast at the Summerland Cafe at this point but I'm skipping this portion of the even for health and safety reasons.

We will walk through the neighborhood and after a short jaunt on Whitney Avenue, we will make a turn into an easement and hike into the back hills above Summerland.

These trails are unique as they skirt the property lines of several horse ranches and orange groves. We will venture into the Greenwell Nature Preserve, cross a creek and hike through a small forest, to the Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club, then back to Point Loon.
