We meet at 4 PM BST / 5 PM CET / 11 AM EST / 8 AM PST

Logs, metrics, and traces are often referred to as the three pillars of observability. They are artifacts that aim to improve understanding and management of applications. This is especially true when it comes distributed architectures including microservices and when CI / CD pipelines and automation are the rule. Chances are traditional monitoring will not be enough and may possibly blinding the DBA to changes that occur on database systems. Correlation between database telemetry and other DEV-oriented monitoring tools and identification of problematic paths become more complex and may lead to promote silos between the database administrator and other teams. Based on a field experience, I will present reasons why we moved our traditional SQL Server monitoring to an observability platform including Telegraf, Prometheus and Grafana.

David is working as a Senior Database Administrator for a retail company in Switzerland. He likes to share experiences and learn with the SQL community.
