West Village Rooftop Summer soiree

Please join our next meetup on a very special private rooftop garden that has been 15 years in the making.

This hidden gem of a garden, right in the heart of Green Village is nearly 3000 square feet and has been a work-in-progress for over 15 years.

Our host and co-member Janna, who lives in the building is a professional landscape gardener who volunteers her expertise and time to keep the roof garden beautiful.

“We have accumulated plants over the years in both curious and utilitarian ways. For example, a lady in the building bought an Alberta spruce as a Christmas tree every year and placed it on the roof when the holiday was over, so we have a few of those. Our oak tree, I suspect was planted by a clever squirrel and no one had the heart to find a new home for it so it's still here. People wanted snacks on the roof so we have: Apple, pear and plum trees, blueberries, raspberries, grapes and kiwis. Joining for the summer are tomatoes, kale, squash and watermelons and sugar snap peas, lettuce, radishes and numerous herbs.

The list of plant varieties include: junipers, weigela, forsythia, hydrangea, trumpet vines, sweet peas, trumpet honeysuckle, cardinal vines, hyacinth bean vine, morning glories, bleeding hearts, columbine, misc. lilies and more...
