NEW FORMAT: Electronic Music Production - Group Collab (READ DESCRIPTION!)
Details
(This is happening in Edinburgh, as part of the Techno & Electronic Music Production Meetup. You're invited to RSVP here and come along. Also see https://meetu.ps/e/Ml1Y0/xwCCx/i)
If you want to come to this event, you'll be asked to bring a few loops YOU made for this meetup (no pre-made loops).
By loop I mean single-instrument loop (beats OR bass OR chords OR melody) with at least three variations (so four loops really), at a predefined bpm and in a specific key.
Beats and percussion count as one instrument, loops can be anywhere between four and sixteen bars in length.
Who does what will be decided randomly, using a random number generator (aka dice). Get in touch via WhatsApp to receive your assignment. :)
When you turn up to the meetup, I'll record what you made into an audio file.
Because of this workflow, you're free to compose your loops in whichever way you prefer, using software, hardware, or a mix. Plugins, hardware synths, trackers, modular setups (VCV rack, anyone?) are all permissible, as long as you can bring that setup with you.
We'll then take all the loops created by contributors and jointly arrange them into a tracklet (a short preliminary track that showcases what the finished piece of music could sound like).
We'll work on my laptop, which will be connected to a projector, so you get a good view.
At the end, we'll have a tracklet to upload to soundcloud and listen to. :)
It's important you bring the device you made the loops on (not just a recording), so the sound can be tweaked where needed.
If you can't make 5.45, please drop a message on WhatsApp or the event chat.
We might hang about after 9.15pm and play around/chat/plan some more.
