DIY Augmented Reality, Part 1

Details

If you've been outside in the last six months you've seen people wandering around sidewalks, streets, fishing piers and other places staring at their phones hunting PokeMon characters. Putting the players in a virtual world seems like magic but it isn't, and in this talk (and the next) I will show you the code you need to build AR-enabled apps. This one will cover using the GPS chip, magnetometer and gyroscopes to let your app know, in real time, where the phone is, which way it's pointed and what orientation it's in. Once you have that, you can use the code to do things like make your own heads-up display using the iPhone camera and the data stream from its other sensors. In this talk I will show you how to do that and by the end of the talk we'll have code you can use in your own projects.
