What we’re about

There is nothing like a bluegrass jam in the mountains. The 100% Almost All Bluegrass Jam is for folks who want to learn to play bluegrass and also for the seasoned bluegrass jammer. We will have two sessions on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. The jam will be a traditional jam circle playing mostly Bluegrass songs. Each person in the circle will have the opportunity to lead a song. Leading a song means you will start the song and sing the lyrics and play your instrument allowing for breaks (solos) by the folks in the circle that want to play a solo. The songs that you lead should be songs you are very comfortable with and can pre-start the song with some simple coaching on how you want the song to go. Bob Ucman will be the jam leader and will oversee the progress of the jam and help folks out during their songs. Prepare the bring songs that are playable by a group. Songs with 2-3 chords are best. Bring your instruments of choice, although Paradox is supplying chairs, bring a music stand if you need one. The is an acoustic jam, so no drums, horns, piano, etc. Instruments that are used in this jam are guitars, dobro's, mandolins, bass upright, banjo, harmonica, cajon and fiddles.
Session 1 will be from 5-6pm and is geared toward beginners with alot of coaching and instruction on how to play in a jam. You need to know how to play the basic chords and change chords smoothly.
Session 2 will be from 6-8pm and wll be for seasoned bluegrass musicians. Sheet music ok to use for the words, but the rest of us will play by ear and memory. This method of playing without sheet music is called Festival Bluegrass. Both sessions are run by Bob Ucman who created the BIBGJS bluegrass jam in Colorado Springs and has taught and lead hundreds of bluegrass jams. Bring a friend or many friends to listen. There will be plenty of room. The jam is free, but a donation or tips from the audience, if given will go to the staff at Paradox for all their support. See you and the jam. Call me with any questions.
