What we're about

Meet your traveling friends! We are building a community of friends, not only from the Dallas area, but from all over the world, who like to travel.

If you love to travel I'm sure you've been there: You decide on a place you want to go to. Maybe you even start planning the trip. Then you try to find friends to go with you, and everyone has all sorts of reasons (excuses...) why they can't go. Or even worse, sometimes you even schedule the trip, and your friends pull out!

Well, that's why we started 1000 Treks Travel Community. We are a group of friends who like to travel. We are welcoming, we are fun, we are inclusive; and, most of all, we want to see everything there is to see and do everything there is to do!

Join us and let's build a community to see the world together!

TIME: 8:30 PM CST
LOCATION: Zoom (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82830416448)
GROUP LEADER: Eduardo and Leigh

Hey guys,

We're going to have a Zoom meeting next Thursday, May 20, to go over and answer any questions that you guys may have about the Galapagos trip. This will also be an opportunity to already meet some of the people going, and to meet me and Leigh, in case you have not met us yet.

If you haven't seen the trip yet (really?? That's the all everyone is talking about on social media and the news ;-)), here are the links:

Land: https://www.1000treks.com/trips/thanksgiving-in-galapagos

Scuba: https://www.1000treks.com/trips/thanksgiving-scuba-diving-in-galapagos

This trip is going to be 1000 Treks' first trip ever since COVID, and for some of you, your first trip as well, so I'm sure some of you have questions.

Think of your questions in advance and email them to me at [masked], so you can guarantee I will go over them.
By the way, you will need to have a Zoom account (free) in order to join, so if you don't have one yet, go ahead and create it in advance. I will open the meeting a little bit earlier. If you haven't been in a Zoom meeting before, I suggest you log in early to fix any potential issues.

See you on Thursday.

Eduardo.

Well, it looks like we are finally and safely getting back on in the water overseas, and we'll be doing it with one of our greatest scuba trips ever, to one of the best locations in the world for scuba: the amazing Galapagos Islands. As a silver lining of the pandemic that seems (fingers crossed) to be coming to an end, Galapagos was either closed to tourism or just partially open for just over the past year. That means over one year of very little to no human activity, allowing the fauna and flora of an already incredible place to blossom and burgeon like never before. This will truly be an opportunity we will never have again.

The Galápagos Islands are located at the junction of three major oceanic currents, creating a very nutrient rich environment that attracts all kinds of marine animals. Galápagos has been named the world's top all-around dive and best for fish life, best for big animal dive, and one of the healthiest marine environments.

Galápagos dive trips are often done via liveaboards, but we decided to make this one a land-based trip. Liveaboards can be very expensive (7,000 for 7 nights on the Aggressor, for example) and not as comfortable (many people don't enjoy staying day and night on a boat for several days). By doing a land-based trip, we will have a better all-around trip, stay more comfortably and pay a lot less. Also, by doing a land-based trip, we have more chances to explore the beautiful dryland side of this unique archipelago, which is also a must-do for travel lovers.

Highlights:

- Visit and dive daily at the two of the main inhabited islands: San Cristobal, Santa Cruz

- Do a day trip to the magnificent uninhabited Bartolomé Island, one of the most famous postcards of Galapagos.

- Dive some of the best locations in Galapagos, such as Kicker Rock, and Gordon Rocks (one of the best places in the world to see hammerheads).

- See some of the world's most fascinating animals that can only be found in Galapagos, such as the Giant Galápagos Tortoise (that live up to 200 years!), the Galápagos Land Iguana (AKA Galápagos Dragon), Galápagos Marine Iguana (and maybe get to see them swimming while we snorkel), Blue-footed Booby, Red-footed Booby, Frigate Bird, Galápagos Penguin and Galápagos Sea Lions.

- Explore unique geological wonders such as Las Grietas, Los Gemelos.

- Visit the world famous Charles Darwin Foundation, where they breed giant tortoises.

- See active volcanos, such as Sierra Negra and Volcan Chico.

- Swim at gorgeous beaches such as Tortuga Bay (named one of the world's 10 most beautiful beaches by TripAdvisor), La Loberia, and Concha de Perla Lagoon.

A great think about this trip is that we will have a completely independent land itinerary with activities every day, so us divers can bring our spouses, friends and significant others and they will have the time of their lives on land while we are out diving. Then every afternoon, we converge to spend time together.
