Icehouse Canyon to Icehouse Saddle

Details

This is hike #3 of our training hikes for the Scandinavia Trip, but it's open to everyone. Whether you are coming on the trip or not, keep coming to our hikes! Summer is just around the corner, and this is the time to get in shape.

Now things are getting a little harder. Icehouse Saddle is 7-mile, 2,700 elevation gain, and should take us about 5 hours up and back.

Now, a little fitness trainer pep talk here: This is a moderately strenuous hike, getting closer to strenuous. If you missed the first two hikes, this is the time to jump in. You might be feeling bad, thinking that by now you blew it, but no! There is still time. Your body gets cardio-conditioned pretty quickly if you keep up, so even if this one looks hard, come! Come and go as far as you can and turn back if you need to. That will be very helpful, and very likely allow you to keep up with the next one, which will be harder. And that’s how you get in shape.

THE PLAN

We’ll start this one at 9:00. It’s a bit of a drive from LA, it’s a 5 hour hike, and sunset is at 19:50, so we should be OK starting mid-morning.

We should be done at around 3pm, and then go grab something to eat at Baldy Village.

The directions on Meetup should be correct, but the address for Google Maps, if you need it, is 899 Mt Baldy Rd, Mt Baldy, CA 91759.

Since is a bit of a drive here is a carpool list if you want to join a carpool or drive.

Bring water (at least two liters), snacks, and sunscreen. There will probably be water on the trail, but it’s best not to count on it. There is no shade on the trail.

NO DOGS. Sorry, we had an incident with a dog on a previous hike, so I don't allow dogs on my hikes anymore.

See you at the trailhead!

Eduardo.
