Details
Presented by the Ridgefield Arts Council The Generator is a bi-monthly get together for artists and all people interested in the Arts community. Modeled on the salons of the early 20th Century, The Generator looks to encourage an active and vibrant community of artists from all disciplines in Ridgefield.
Participating and sharing their thoughts on storytelling in the arts will be;
Bill Franzen - Writer
Bill Franzen is the author of "Hearing From Wayne and Other Stories." He is a long-time contributor to The New Yorker and has written for a variety of formats, most notably "A Prairie Home Companion" with Garrison Keeler. Bill is also known for the imagery and inventive storytelling of his Ridgefield Halloween displays. Bill mentions that while reading this bio one should feel free to edit.
Missy Stevens - Fabric Artist
Missy Stevens’ thread paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the United States, including the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in Ridgefield, Connecticut; the St. Louis Art Museum in St. Louis, Missouri; and the Society for Contemporary Crafts in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In addition, her work is in public collections, including those of the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, New York and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington DC. Ken Johnson of the New York Times has said of her work, “Her images may seem whimsically simple-minded, but as in the poetry of Emily Dickinson, formal ingenuity and heartfelt moods ranging from ecstasy to grief give the work a complex depth that belies the seemingly naïve surface."
David Ray - Songwriter
A former New York City cab driver, bartender, bouncer, and actor, David Ray’s songs have been described as “cinematic.” They’ve been sung by artists as varied as Grammy-winner Shawn Colvin and Dove Award winner Kathy Troccoli, and recorded by producers from Arif Mardin to Rick Wake. Along with Lyle Lovett, Richie Havens, Julie Gold (From a Distance) and others, his early Fast Folk recordings are now part of the permanent collection at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.
