Poway Symphony Orchestra "Free" Sun, 3/9/14 @ 2:30 P.M.

The program for the orchestra's next concert promises to provide a rewarding experience of great classical music.

It will open with the "Academic Festival Overture" by Brahms: a fitting celebratory masterpiece presented in anticipation of the orchestra's tenth anniversary year. The full orchestra will perform the composers' version of joyful student songs, closing with the solemn "Gaudeamus Igitur" or "Lets rejoyce". Aren't we all students at heart?

The orchestra will then transport us to Skandinavia with a series of "Norwegian Dances" richly orchestrated by Grieg.

In the second half, the orchestra will be joined by guest artist Melissa Creider, the soloist in the pianoconcerto in G minor by Mendelssohn, "a dashing, imaginative, profoundly romantic work" with "glittering passages" in the solo parts.

There will also be attendees from the Baby Boomers group and the North County Singles and Friends, at this time totaling 40 members. Many of you know each other already. I expect the actual attendance will be roughly half.

Concert starts at 3:00. I will be there at 2:30 and will be champing at the bit to get a front row seat if possible. Please arrive early and be ready to get seated no later than 2:30. I will carry the sign and I look, (amazing as it seems) like my picture!
After the concert for those who'd like to mingle and get a cocktail and a bite, let's try the HH and offerings at the Brigantine in Poway, a short 5 minute drive from the Center.
You will need to make a concerted effort to genuinely look for me with the group so we can get this done together as a group. If you get misplaced somehow, head over after the concert ends and look for us there. Tell the hostess you're with Meetup, and they can show you where to find us.
