Backpack for Kids is the largest undertaking of our 1st Saturday group; it is a time of great outreach. For 2012, we have adopted McWhorter Elementary School and we have collected school supplies for 500 children and parents for the 2012-2013 year.

These supplies are for children that have qualified for the UDSA free and reduced lunch program. These children are from single parent families or families where a parent has lost their job, or whose job has been cut back. Many of these children face a sad and sometimes contentious time regarding school supplies.

Note: This 1st Saturday is connected with than the McWhorter Meet-the-Teacher Fair.

Call for Volunteers

In this 1st Saturday we will pack 25,000 school items into 500 backpacks with specific configurations for each grade level and transport the to McWhorter Elementary on Timberglen Drive.

60 volunteers needed We need 60 volunteers to assemble, label, and transport backpacks on Auhttp://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/7/2/6/c/event_142769292.jpeggust 18th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

We will assemble and label at the Prince of Peace Conference Center, 6479 International Parkway Carrollton, TX 75093.

We will transport the finished backpacks to McWhorter and unload and secure them at the school - 3678 Timberglen - Dallas, TX 75287 (travel map (https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Prince+of+PeaceCarrollton+Texas&daddr=3678+Timberglen,+Carrollton,+TX)).

Time and Place The event will take place from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Volunteers will meet at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Conference Center (campus map (http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/e/4/8/highres_52728712.jpeg)).
