Internet without USA: your thoughts?

States everywhere have known for a long while now that the USA cannot be trusted to host data and computing. E.g., because of FISA, etc. In recent years this has lent momentum to the EU to build sovereign infrastructures, i.e., internet infrastructure that can be trusted by local and regional populations.

The recent behaviour of the US has emphasized this need and also weaknesses in national and international strategies in this area.

Infrastructure, hardware, software, and the financial, technical, and temporal wherewithal to compete might be in some deficit almost everywhere.

In this special edition, this project becomes an open forum for you to voice your concerns. I'd love to know what you think. Anything at all. What's on your mind on this subject, where do you think we'll go, what do we want to happen, how do we get there, and other questions.

You don't have to be an expert at all. The internet is everyone's. Yours too. Let's hear your voice.

Format

I'll probably give a very brief introduction and then the floor is all yours. I don't like large groups so we'll likely break into small groups to discuss before coming together again. I'm still thinking it through.
