"Los Remedios del Pueblo" (The People's Medicine) is an introduction to the traditional healing uses of plants and ritual from Mexico and the south-western United States.
This class will explore the social, curative, and spiritual role of the folk healer, el curandero, in Mexican and Mexican/American communities, give a basic overview of our roots in Aztec medicine and medical philosophy, learn some commonly used herbs (including their traditional preparation and applications), and introduce culturally specific ailments and healing rituals of Mexico and the American south-west.
Section one of this class will repeat the previous "Los Remedios del Pueblo" taught in April by Carla Vargas-Frank.
Section two of this series will be offered directly after section one for an additional price and will include three hours of hands on preparation of traditional home remedies from the south western regions of the United States and Mexico.
