Extended 3/4 Day Limited Load Trip Off-Shore

Details
Hello Everybody!
NOTICE ---- THIS TRIP IS FULL ----- NOTICE ----- 2 MORE TRIPS WILL BE POSTED SOON!! This is the second in a series of four Extended 3/4 day trips on our favorite local boat, the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in Mission Bay. The main difference between this trip and the first trip is the destination. Since this trip happens later in the Summer, we will probably be going up to 40 miles off-shore in search of the larger migratory fish, such as Albacore, Yellowfin and Bluefin Tuna, Dorado (aka: mahi mahi) and yellowtail. I can't promise that we'll be going off shore, because it all depends on where the fish are. If the off-shore fish haven't shown up yet, we'll fish at the Coronado Islands instead. However, by early to mid August, the off-shore fish are almost always within range, and we've had lots of fun catching them on our off-shore adventures! Our record catch on one of these trips was a 47 pound bluefin tuna caught on a trip in 2011. We've also caught countless yellowfin in the 30 pound range. Last year, we were very successful with dorado!
On these trips, we can go as far as 50 miles out, however, we rarely need to go farther than 35 to 40 miles. While Captain Ryan keeps vigelant watch in the wheelhouse with his super high tech binoculars, crewmembers Rene and Chris climb up on top of the wheelhouse to scan the seas too. They look for three things: birds gathering and flying near the water, dolphin pods, and clusters of kelp called "kelp paddies". Any kind of fish can be found under bird flocks and kelp paddies, and yellowfin tuna will commonly swim beneath the dolphin pods. Once they're spotted, we move in and get the party started. I can tell you there's no greater fishing thrill than when Ryan maxes out the engines and chases down a dolphin pod, and we all cast out for a school of tuna swimming underneath them! We've had wide open bites that last an hour and a half, and we've brought back as many as 180 fish for 30 people!!! These fish have lots of meat too!
Since we travel so far out, we leave extra early at 4:00 AM. We load up with sardines and anchovies at the bait dock, and then we cruise out to the fishing grounds. Most of us kick back on lounge chairs or on the benches in the galley and just sleep while Captain Ryan drives us at 10 knotts out to the fish. Even if the fish are a full 40 miles out, we're still usually finding our first school by 9:00 AM, and we fish until as late as 4 or 5 in the afternoon before Ryan heads us back to the dock (he calls it "the barn"). We often start the return voyage while we're still fishing, giving us even more time to fish before we have to pull in the lines and max out the engines for home. These trips are always lots of fun, and they've been some of the most productive fishing as well!
We "limit the load" to 30 people, and, in addition to fishing "over the side" with our own gear, Ryan provides 4 trolling rigs that we can use for trolling as we search for the next school or paddy. Of course, you can bring your own trolling rig too, but we only allow 4 trolling rigs at one time, and we rotate so everyone gets a chance on the troll.
These trips burn a lot of fuel, and Ryan goes all-out to find the fish! Ryan and his crew always help us get rigged up too if we ask for assistance.
The cost is $130 per person, and, if you don't have a 1 year Mexican Fishing License, there is an additional $15 fee for a 1 day license. I also need to warn everyone that, because these trips can burn a lot of fuel, Captain Ryan may need to ask us for an additional fuel surcharge if the price of diesel fuel rises above $5 a gallon. We've never had a surcharge yet, but we do need to alert everyone to the possibility. Fuel surcharges could amount to $5 to $10 per person if Ryan finds it necessary to ask for one.
These trips always fill up, so, to reserve a spot, you will need to make a $50 deposit for each spot reserved. We can't have any "no-shows" on these trips! When you sign up, I will send you a mailing address for your deposit.
On this trip, as on all 4 trips this Summer, we will be joined by our friends at Charkbait Tackle Shops. They'll be there showing us the latest fishing techniques and handing out free stuff. Also, I will try to arrange for a drawing so everyone on board will have a chance to win a special prize!
So, give me a shout and sign up for this trip! If you can't go on this date, no worries, as we will have 2 more trips just like it (August 23 and September 13)! We'll look forward to fishing with everyone!
Welcome Aboard!!!
Dave "Sea Dog" McAdams
P.S. If you don't already have your own fishing gear, I have several extra poles I can loan to people. If I run out of extra poles, you can rent a pole from Seaforth Landing for $18. All hooks, weights, and bait are provided for free!
