Gay Barboza is a singer/songwriter from Southeastern Massachusetts. Writing songs all of her life, she performed in bands and acoustic duos until she went solo in 2012. In 2013 she released her first original, full-length cd, "little peaces". In 2014, she was nominated in 5 different categories and is honored to have won the award for WMRC's 2014 Best Local Acoustic Solo Act. Her powerful voice and soulful songwriting was showcased even further with release of her second cd, "Work In Progress..." in November of 2015. She is honored to be opening up for the incomparable Ellis Paul in March of 2016.
Though you can find her constantly writing songs at her kitchen table, Gay performs all over Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Her sound is a bluesy combination of rock and folk which reflect her love of the many artists who have influenced her...James Taylor, Janis Joplin, The Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Carole King, Stevie Nicks, Alanis Morrisette, Norah Jones, Hall & Oates, Simon & Garfunkel, Journey- and so many more. Gay's original music pays homage to these artists through her unique lyrics, observations and reflections from many different influences in her life.
In Her Own Words:
"I can't remember a time while growing up that I wasn't writing something. I wrote my first songs when I was about 13 years old. They weren't very good of course, but they were mine. My parents bought me a beautiful guitar when I went to high school and I kept all of those songs in its' case. It was stolen a few months later and I probably should have been very upset about that guitar, but the only thing that really mattered to me were those wonderful, awful songs. Not every song is a masterpiece, but they're all pieces of you."
