More Than Slideware – An Insider’s Perspective on Real World Big Data Use Cases

This presentation draws on real world use cases primarily from the telecommunications and banking industries to illustrate how large scale advanced analytics can be used to address a number of important business problems including fraud, marketing optimisation and customer experience. Rather than focussing solely on the algorithms deployed, this presentation will also discuss the complexities of deploying analytical solutions in a large corporation. Topics such as data collection, data quality, communication of results and managing stakeholder expectations will be discussed in the context of data scientific deployments.

We will be joined by Ross Farrelly from Teradata. Ross (M. App. Stats., BSc(Hons), M. App. Ethics., Grad. Dip. Ed.) has many years’ experience in successful consulting, training and programming for clients around Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. He is currently Chief Data Scientist at Teradata South Pacific. He has successfully designed and implemented big data projects, comprising both Hadoop and Teradata Aster technologies in mega major companies in Australia, Indonesia and Japan. He is a certified Hadoop and SAS programmer and also has extensive experience with R, SQL-MR, SQL-GR and Java.
