What we’re about
🗞️ Welcome to 15 West, Greater Chicago’s Neurodiverse Newsroom
"15 West" is a resident- and volunteer-powered newsroom connecting people mile by mile, block by block across Chicago’s West Side and neighboring suburbs.
Powered by Cook County’s Digital Equity Impact Grant and operated by nonprofit arts publisher Lucky Jefferson, we’re building one of the first inclusive news spaces designed for readers of all needs, abilities, and competencies.
Our mission:
- Make news easier to understand
- Reduce misinformation
- Prioritize neurodiverse and accessibility-first design
Whether you're a curious neighbor, a passionate volunteer, or someone who wants to help reshape how communities access information, we’d love to meet you.
Join us to co-create a more connected, informed, and inclusive Chicago!

See all- Media Literacy 101: From Resident to JournalistREMOTE Meetup, Chicago, IL
Offered through 15 West, the newsroom initiative powered by Lucky Jefferson, this series of workshops is part of our larger mission to improve literacy through digital expression. We equip underrepresented residents in Cook County's west side neighborhoods with essential media skills to become confident, informed storytellers.
Participants will learn to decode misinformation, critically engage with media, and craft their own narratives through hands-on training in digital publishing and community journalism. Rooted in inclusivity and representation, this workshop transforms everyday residents into local reporters, using media as a tool for cultural participation, social equity, and civic empowerment.
Whether you're curious about telling a specific story or want to uplift the voices in your neighborhood, Media Literacy 101 is your first step from media consumer to changemaker.
