November's book is "Silver Nitrate" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Here is a brief synopsis:
Set in 1990s Mexico City, it follows Montserrat, a talented sound editor, who yearns for recognition. Her childhood friend Tristán, a faded soap opera star, stumbles upon a cursed film project. Together, they aim to uncover its secrets, awakening Montserrat’s hidden powers and facing dark forces.
December's book is "A Country Doctor's Notebook" by Mikhail Bulgakov. Here is a brief synopsis:
With the ink still wet on his diploma, the twenty-five-year-old Dr. Mikhail Bulgakov was flung into the depths of freezing rural Russia which, in 1916-17, was still largely unaffected by such novelties as the motor car, the telephone or electric light. How his alter-ego copes (or fails to cope) with the new and often appalling responsibilities of a lone doctor in a vast country practice — on the eve of Revolution — is described in Bulgakov's delightful blend of candid realism and imaginative exuberance.
PLEASE READ! THIS MONTH WE ARE DOING BOOK CLUB ON THE SECOND THURSDAY OF THE MONTH!
January's book is "Martyr!" by Kaveh Akbar. Here is a brief synopsis:
A newly sober, orphaned son of Iranian immigrants, guided by the voices of artists, poets, and kings, embarks on a remarkable search for a family secret that leads him to a terminally ill painter living out her final days in the Brooklyn Museum. Electrifying, funny, and wholly original, Martyr! heralds the arrival of an essential new voice in contemporary fiction.
