VSTS (Visual Studio Team Services) is a cloud based application life cycle management (ALM) service. It is more than just source control. Check it out at https://www.visualstudio.com/team-services/ .

VSTS involves the following:

• Source control Requirements gathering
• Development process management
• Continuous integration
• Continuous delivery
• Reporting
• Work Item tracking
• Integration with major industry standard IDEs like Eclipse, IntelliJ, Android Studio, and (of course) Visual Studio
• Integration with Git & GitHub
• Tight integration with Azure Cloud Services.
• DevOps for mobile apps with HockeyApp.

Microsoft offers a free tier of this service for teams of up to five members.

In this talk, we will take you through an end-to-end journey starting from basic requirements gathering to deployment to Azure, and everything in between.

SPEAKERS

Medhat Elmasry was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He obtained his first and second degrees from the UK. He wrote his first commercial computer program in Cobol on an NCR computer that used punched cards in the 80s, when he worked for the "United Nations Economic Commission for Africa" in Addis Ababa. Currently, Medhat is an instructor at BCIT in the Computing department, an independent IT contractor, and a founder of the .NET BC user group in Vancouver, Canada. He is also a regular speaker at user group meetings and technology conferences. Medhat likes to dabble in various technologies pertaining to Web, .NET, Mobile, Cloud and Java spaces. Krishna Kothumbaka is an independent IT consultant and an instructor at BCIT. He works on both .NET and Java technologies. He enjoys learning and teaching new technologies. His current interests include Big Data, Mobile Application Development and Cloud technologies.
