First monthly NY Open Source FinTech Meetup

Details

The financial services world is warming to open source collaboration. Banks are finding that contributing to open source projects they use can decrease development costs and increase security. Fintech startups are making open source part of their core strategy and value proposition, and raising venture capital in the process. Algorithmic and high frequency trading companies are choosing languages developed as open source projects on which to develop training platforms. Blockchain technology is making open source competence a fundamental requirement in financial services.

Still, fintech is in the first stages of its open source transformation. The purpose of this meetup is to bring together the community of people thinking about - and developing on - open source in financial services and fintech, both global banks and early stage pre-seed startups. We'll have speakers, panel discussions, tech demos, and other programming, but we'll also leave plenty of time for members to share a drink and talk to one other about the work they're doing in open source.

This first meetup will feature a panel discussion on the topic "Predictions and Outlook for Open Source in FinTech in 2018" featuring:

  • John Stecher, Managing Director and Group Head of Open Innovation, Barclays
  • Mazy Dar, CEO, OpenFin
  • Moderator: Aaron Williamson, General Counsel & Director of Governance, Symphony Software Foundation

Schedule:

  • 6:30 - 7:15 Networking & drinks
  • 7:15 - 8:15 Panel discussion
  • 8:15 - 9:00 Networking & drinks This meetup is co-hosted by the Symphony Software Foundation (https://symphony.foundation) and TTM Advisors (http://www.ttmadvisors.com/).
