February Meetup: I'm the storyteller and my story must be told!

Details

Apologies for the reference to 1980s childrens' TV (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs3X90RLW3A), but this month our focus is on the new buzzword: Digital Storytelling

We'll be having some talks and insights about ways non-profits are putting across their message. What works, and how can we measure it?

Know of a good story? Please post up any links on this collaboration space (http://willyou.typewith.me/p/mcrn2).

Our speakers:

-------------

Dr. Luke Dickens, Research Associate in Media and Communications, Goldsmiths College, will join us to illustrate some of the underlying issues around digital storytelling via the example of the '100 Camps' project, a recent digital storytelling project undertaken with the Salford Lads Club. His case study will explore the possibilities that digital technologies can bring to the fundamental human desire to connect through the exchange of stories.

------------

Steve Daigneault is Senior Vice President at M+R Strategic Services (http://www.mrss.com/). Steve has over 15 years of experience as a grassroots organizer, communications specialist and online strategist with organisations such as Save Darfur Coalition, American Cancer Society, U.S. Holocaust Museum, Amnesty International USA and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and Oceana. Steve recently hosted the webinar It's Not You, It's Your Stories: How Your Fundraising Appeals Can Tell Better Stories (http://www.nten.org/events/webinar/2012/02/08/its-not-you-its-your-stories-how-your-fundraising-appeals-can-tell-better-stories) and will join us (live from New York) to share insights.

------------

Michael DeLong is I'm the Online Community Manager (http://forums.techsoup.org/cs/members/michaeldelong/) at TechSoup Global, based in San Francisco. Michael is involved in the 2012 TechSoup Digital Storytelling Challenge (http://www.netsquared.org/blog/alicja-peszkowska/participate-2012-techsoup-digital-story), where non-profit organisations participate in a series of short, interactive online trainings and then apply that knowledge to create their digital story in the form of a one-minute video or five-picture slideshow.

This #TSDigs (https://twitter.com/#!/search/%23TSDigs) Challenge is currently underway and closes on the 29th Feb, so do check it out (http://forums.techsoup.org/cs/p/tsdigs-2012.aspx) beforehand if you can... and/or watch the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=IeNVpqLnrxM).
