Veterans and employers are encouraged to join us to further the advancement of powerful career building in Northeast Alabama. The Meetup platform will serve our coalition as it begins to grow and emerge as the go-to site to announce events, promote opportunities, address challenges that both employers and veterans face and create engagement between employers and veterans.
It's so wonderful that unemployment is at an all-time low. And also it's so sad that the workforce mentality is also at an all-time low. However, veterans are in a class all their own. They already have a “let’s get this job done, get it done now and get it done right” attitude built in.
The purpose of this group is to better strategize the building and maintaining of a stronger, more reliable workforce. Veterans already have an advantage over the average untrained, unskilled jobseeker.
Any veteran or veteran’s spouse is strongly encouraged to join this group.
Any employers and Human Resource personnel, no matter the type of service they provide and no matter the type of company they run, is certainly encouraged to participate.
Please contact me if you would like to promote a hiring or networking event through this platform. It’s free! Plus, supporting and strengthening your workforce is my job as your Local Veteran Employer Representative, proudly serving the State of Alabama Labor Department.
I can reach out to and work with employers, veteran service organizations and career center partners to collaborate improving your veteran hiring process. Employers can expect long-lasting employee retention because over the years; veterans have proven to be dedicated.
Feel free to strike up a discussion on our Discussion Board. Contact the organizer (that’s me) if you wish to promote any events that include veterans or employers. This includes job fairs, networking and hiring events. Also, veteran skills-building workshops, like resume building and mock interviewing, can be advertised here as well.
My Gadsden Career Center colleagues and I can also assist in job development and job placement. And, as an employer, you should find out about ALL the services available at your disposal including the On-the-Job (OJT) training program and the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC). These programs are designed to increase your bottom line. The Federal Bonding Program, a free service, can alleviate employer concerns about hiring a formally incarcerated individual.
I would certainly be remiss if I didn't let employers know about the HIRE Vets Medallion Award. This program nationally recognized employers for hiring veterans (https://www.hirevets.gov). The deadline for applications is April 30, 2020. Last year alone, the U.S. Department of Labor awarded 427 employers from around the nation for recruiting, employing and retaining America's veterans. Only 11 employers represents Alabama. We need to get that number much higher! It is truly an honor to receive this award and can be achieved by having at little as 7% veteran workforce.
I serve Etowah and Cherokee Counties and here’s a list of other northeast Alabama Career Centers:
