Chances are, you’ve never been to, or possibly ever even heard of, the Hennepin History Museum. It’s located just down 3rd Avenue from the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
It’s a small museum. It can be walked through in an hour to an hour and a half.
Their website: https://hennepinhistory.org/
The current main featured exhibit is “Winston: A Woman’s Fight for Freedom in Minnesota”.
In the exhibit, you follow an enslaved woman’s journey north with the family who enslaved her. She became the first, and only, enslaved person to legally secure her freedom in a Minnesota courtroom.
Here’s a link to a recent review of the exhibit in the Minnesota Spokesman Recorder:

Other current exhibits include “Circle of Water: Puppetry as an Agent of Change”, “In Memoriam: Residents of Pioneers & Soldiers Cemetery”, and “An Introduction to Hennepin County”.

Admission:
Pay as you can.
Donations are accepted.
Masks are optional while visiting the Museum.
Unfortunately, their building isn’t fully accessible and does require climbing stairs. They suggest contacting them if you have questions about accessing the museum and exhibits.
Telephone: 612-870-1329 .
Free parking might be available in their lot, or if not, on 3rd Ave. S. in front of the museum, on other neighborhood streets, or you can park in the Minneapolis Institute of Art lot next to the museum, if you don’t mind paying.
Please be mindful of any posted street parking restrictions or possible snow emergency restrictions.
Afterwards, we’ll be regrouping at The Lowry, Uptown, 2112 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, a six minute drive away, for Happy Hour (2-6 PM).
