It's not YOU, it's Tall Poppy Syndrome
Details
“It’s not bragging if you’ve done it!” ~ Dizzy Dean
Have you ever heard of Tall Poppy Syndrome? It's a social “rule” in New Zealand and Australia that says it’s okay to do well, but not okay to stand out. It is a cultural pressure to blend in with the crowd. If you stand out too much, society trims you down through subtle (or not so subtle!) banter and criticism.
What we'll look at:
- Gaining a better understanding of Tall Poppy Syndrome
- The cultural and social dynamics at play
- Its impact on society and individuals
- Common examples and phrases used
- What it shows us about ourselves—and what it doesn't
- Practical ways to handle it
I'd like to invite you to join this awesome little community that is genuinely supportive, non-judgmental and wise. I've learned so much and I'm sure you will too! So, be ready to show up, show your face, and unmute yourself!
