(Bonus) Hike to Sand Cave
Details
This is NOT part of the Trail Quest - but since we'll be in the area.... we simply must do the most epic hike in VA. OK, not 100% in VA, and the hike itself is not the epic part. The Sand Cave is.
Anticipating hot weather, and planning to visit a state park in the afternoon, we're starting this one early. Bring so much water. Be hydrated before you get there. This hike is hard. It's up. A lot. 2300 feet of up. 27,600 inches of up. And you'll feel them all. Well I did, when I did the hike in the fall... and I LOVED IT.
The ground has loose rocks and sandy soils - it's just a tough hike.
Be ready!
The payoff is awesome! There is nothing like that Sand Cave.
We are going to hike into Kentucky. We are going to soak in sweeping views of Tennesee. It's fab! You won't regret it.
So lace 'em if you got 'em and let's get to steppin. :)
We will meet at the trail head at the Thomas Walker Civic Park in Ewing, and finish up in time for lunch and a cool down before hitting Wilderness Rd State Park - also posted in this group!
