About us
Project 2050: A Modern-Day 1984, Written, Filmed, and Released by Us
What if the book were on sale the moment the credits roll?
We’re building Project 2050, a modern reimagining of Orwell’s 1984 for a world of ambient surveillance, drone warfare, programmable money, and AI-edited history. We’ll write it, film it, and release it together, remotely, within 3-6 months.
The potential plot (optional)
The story is set in 2050, where “managed care” has replaced the boot on the face. Our version keeps what made the original last: a small, ordinary hero, slogans that are paradoxes, and a trap the reader half-sees coming. It swaps telescreens for ambient sensors, the Ministry of Truth for a cloud archive that can be edited, and Big Brother for The Shepherd, who counts every one.
The Format Is Up to the Group
Together we’ll choose the strongest path:
A novel written collaboratively
An AI-generated film
A hybrid of graphics and film
The Plan
After the initial meetup- One remote meeting a week to pitch ideas, assign work, and review progress
Real milestones and on-time tasks so we finish
Fast decisions: we’ll choose the best option and keep moving
A public premiere with screenings around the Pacific Northwest, plus a site where people can watch the film for a small donation or fee
The Payoff
The book may take longer than the film. When it’s finished, I’ll commit to ordering a bulk print run for contributors to sell for your own personal profit. Everyone who helped earns from the work they did, so it’s a shared-income project.
Ground Rules
Join only if you plan to contribute, even if it’s a single sentence. Every contribution counts.
Keep a supportive spirit. Criticism of a project like this will come, but not from us. We appreciate each other’s work, then move forward.
Diligence, appreciation and confidence. With all, we can meld our minds and make something brilliant.
Our First Meetup
The Kennedy School, Portland
Date: [DATE] | Time: [TIME]
We can negotiate two different meetup times so more people can join. If you have an ideal location or time, tell us in the comments.
RSVP and bring your ideas. Writers, filmmakers, designers, prompt artists, editors, sound people, and web builders are all welcome, along with anyone who has ever felt watched.
Bring your ideas on a single piece of paper and be prepared to share.
Let's do this before the Thought Police come for us.
