Quail Mountain: the highpoint of Joshua Tree
Hosted by Wilderness Adventure Meetup Group
Details
[I'LL RESCHEDULE THIS ON A WEEKEND]
Let's do Quail Mountain in Joshua Tree, allegedly 13.4 mi with just 1709' of gain. Quail is the highest point in the park.
Depending on traffic JTree is probably 2.5 to 3 hours from L.A. and the Motel 6 in Twentynine Palms isn't that bad if you're going to stay overnight.
Make sure to bring a headlamp, the end of this hike will be in the dark.
The next day we can do something else, like https://ironhiker.blogspot.com/2015/03/malapai-hill-and-malapai-benchmark.html
There's also an interesting spire I espied from Ryan Mountain that I want to check out in the same area as Malapai.
I have a National Parks pass and I can smuggle others into the park. I'll have the route downloaded to not just one, not just two, but three devices to ensure we don't go around and around in circles.
Note that we're meeting in Yucca Valley so everyone should have a signal.
