May Book Club: American War by Omar El Akkad

May's Book of the Month is American War by Omar El Akkad. This one is a gripping and intense dystopian story! It takes place in a future where a Second American Civil War has broken out over fossil fuels. We follow a young girl named Sarat as her family is forced into a refugee camp and see how the war completely changes her life. Think powerful world building, climate change themes, and deep explorations of survival and how people are shaped by conflict. It is a really thought provoking and immersive read!
