Open Bar New Year's Eve Celebration!!

Details

*** Great night to ring in the new year, see you tonight! ***

UPDATE #9: Online ticket sales have closed. Since we did not sell out, tickets may be purchased at the door for $120. Please bring exact cash only. Any ticket resell transfers after 5pm will not be permitted.

UPDATE #8:

• Just a reminder, we will have a master list of all those that have paid. It’s not required, but I recommend printing out your payment confirmation email as a backup (if you are not on the list, you will be required to show it). When you check-in, your RSVP will be listed under the name of the PayPal or credit card account used to make payment. Typically, this is your LEGAL name as shown on your driver's license. Sometimes, it may be under a company name if you set up your PayPal or credit card account that way. If you are not sure what it is, please log into your PayPal account (it will say "Welcome, [your account name]" at the top) or your credit card account to find out. If you are RSVP'd under someone else's payment, you must arrive and check-in together.

Everyone needs to present a valid photo ID at check-in and to verify you are of drinking age. (21+)

• Coat check service will be available gratis.

• Metrorail will be closing at 3am. SoberRide, 800.200.8294 (TAXI), is offering free taxi rides (up to $30). Street parking is limited. Garages may be open (see Metro and Parking section of the event posting for full details), please call them to verify their NYE hours.

• Just a reminder, the food being passed around will be light hors d'oeuvres. Please make sure to have a complete dinner beforehand.

• Lastly, and most importantly, for your own safety and others, please know your limits! We are committed to responsible drinking, so don’t drink and drive, and please be courteous towards others. We want everyone to have a good time, but in compliance with state liquor law, those over intoxicated, belligerent, or unruly will be removed immediately from the event and our group. Please don't be that person that ruins the night for everyone else. As a last resort, either we or the venue will have to terminate the event should public safety be threatened.

UPDATE #7: The early-bird price has ended and the ticket price is now $119. Looking forward to seeing you there!

UPDATE #6: We've been able to extend the early bird price! The first 225 paid sign-ups, or those who pay by Sun. Dec. 25th (whichever comes first) get the early bird price! After that, the ticket price will go to $119.

UPDATE #5: We've been featured in the #3 spot in the December issue of On Tap magazine's New Year's Eve Party Guide!... http://files.meetup.com/214400/ontapnye123116.png. I look forward to seeing you there!

UPDATE #4.5: The date for the guaranteed $159 discounted room hotel option has passed. However, since the Grand Hyatt still has some availability left, they are extending the price for our group until availability is gone. So get your room sooner rather than later (see Hotel Option section of the event posting for full details)!

UPDATE #4: There are fewer than 35 $109 ticket spots left and the price will increase from $109 to $119 when the $109 ticket spots are gone or by Sun. Dec. 18th (whichever comes first). I hope to see you there!

UPDATE #3.6: Based on a tremendous amount of feedback from members of our group, we've been able to get the venue to move the end time of our event to 2am (from 1am). This means our event will also start an hour later at 9:30pm (and as we've always done in previous years). I look forward to seeing you there!

UPDATE #3.5: Just a friendly reminder that if you wish to book a discounted hotel room (see Hotel Option section of the event posting), you will need to do so by Fri. Dec. 16th).

UPDATE #3: The early-bird price has ended and the ticket price is now $109. Looking forward to seeing you there!

UPDATE #2: There are fewer than 35 early bird spots left and the price will increase from $99 to $109 when the early bird spots are gone or by Sun. Dec. 4th (whichever comes first). To be fair to those who want to join in and are ready to make payment, I'll be removing those that haven't paid by Sun. Nov. 27th. So make payment to truly lock in your spot (see the Payment section of the event posting). If you've already made payment, the PayPal email you received is confirmation that we've received your payment (no need to email me asking for ticket confirmation). This UPDATE has been emailed to the yes RSVPs. I hope to see you there!

UPDATE #1: I've updated the Hotel Option section and added an FAQ section for information not found elsewhere in the event posting. I hope you can join us!

Join us for our New Year's Eve celebration!

http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/1/8/0/5/600_456906149.jpeg

We've reserved the entire City Club of Washington for us on New Year's Eve (9:30pm - 2am)! If you've never been there before, the City Club houses the Grand Atrium, a huge, gorgeous, 15,000 square foot venue known for its sky-high ceilings, dramatic grand marble staircase, and beautiful up-lit fountain. We will also have access to the elegant Columbia Square Lounge, if we need to take a break from the dance floor. Founded in 1987 as a distinguished private club to fulfill the needs and be easily accessible to the political, legal, and business communities, The City Club is located in the heart of downtown DC, just 3 blocks from the White House, and 1 block from the Metro Center Metro Station.

And all this while Exclusively Entertainment's DJ Pedram gets us shaking our tail feathers in a journey through time from the 80s, 90s, 00s, and today! DJ Pedram spins it all... mash-ups, dance, top 40, hip hop, house, you name it... and has performed at some of the hottest clubs in DC, including Eden, Rosebar, Asia DC, and Ultrabar. Matter of fact, he has helped us ring in the new year for all of our New Year's Eve events (except the first one)! See video from our previous year's event above!

http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/1/3/7/f/600_455704991.jpeg

Other New Year's Eve events advertise one bartender for every 75 patrons, and that's what we used to do. Based on comments from our members (we publicly allow and listen to them), we're doing better than that with one professional bartender for every 60 patrons! Additionally, there are no coat check fees and bartender gratuities! Coat check fees and bartender tips are included in our ticket price... a $10 - $20 value (tho having been a bartender in a previous life, if you do tip and they are permitted to accept, you will likely receive better service).

There will be party favors in preparation for the New Year's Eve countdown and midnight celebration... let's be sure to grab our glass of champagne from the bar beforehand, for a midnight champagne toast!!

Some of you know we rotate our New Year's Eve event at different venues every year or 2 so that we can explore all that Washington DC has to offer (compared to other events that host their party, at the same location, year in and year out). I previously said we would stop hosting New Year's Eve events (and we did for a while), but enough people have come up to me throughout the years and asked me to host it again, so here we go! This event is 21+ only (valid ID required). To ensure the venue doesn’t get too crowded, we are capping the attendance at about half of some of our previous New Year’s Eve events.

http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/1/3/8/2/600_455704994.jpeg

Space is limited, so sign-up early! Early-bird ticket price is only $99 for the first 200 paid sign-ups, or those who pay by Sun. Dec 4th (whichever comes first). YES, $99!!! It's our pleasure to present an alternative to those annoying $150 - $200 and up ticket price New Year's Eve events, backloaded with extra fees. After early bird tickets are gone, prices go up to $109, then to $119. We have a LIMITED number of spots so make sure to RSVP early AND make payment to secure your spot and get the early bird price! These spots go fast, and we've always sold out. To make payment, please follow the steps in the "Payment" section of the event posting.

Tell your friends, come on out, and let's let loose with a night of dancing, music, drinks, and fun while ringing in the new year!

See you there!

  • J.T.

P.S. As a shout out to our sponsor Exclusively Entertainment, if you are ever in need of an event planner for weddings, corporate functions, private parties, etc., I highly recommend them. There's a reason we keep using them for our New Year's Eve event year after year!

FAQs

The following are questions not answered elsewhere in the event posting. This section will be updated as appropriate. 1. Why did you increase the price from previous years? Hosting a New Year's Eve event at a high-end venue is expensive (not to mention a lot of work). This is part of the reason why I stopped hosting this event for a while. I've always tried to find venues that offered us a good price for this special night, and pass the saving along to our members. Unfortunately, this is challenging to do. I did my best to keep our price down as much as possible for this year. While more expensive than in the past, this package is still a great deal for what's being offered. I hope you are able to join us!

Metro and Parking

The closest Metro is Metro Center. I suggest Metro / cabbing / Uber'ing if you can. I also recommend using wmata.com (http://www.wmata.com) for travel planning. Don't forget to account for Metro, traffic, and parking delays. If you are driving, you will need to find street parking or a garage. I recommend using parkopedia.com (http://en.parkopedia.com/) for garage parking planning.

Dress Code

Dress code is black tie optional. So dress to impress! For gentlemen, this means jacket and tie or tux. For ladies, cocktail or formal dress. For all, creativity is encouraged! So don’t be afraid to get funky, MTV Music Award-like with your attire!

Payment

PayPal account not required. Please follow the instructions below for making payment (if payment by smartphone doesn't work, please try your computer). Your RSVP is not guaranteed without payment, and your email receipt is confirmation that we have received your payment (please check your spam folder and email settings). Payment at the door will be permitted only should the event not sell out. A lot of our events do sell out, so we recommend you secure your spot online early. If you make payment for less than the current ticketed price displayed without prior correspondence, your RSVP will be removed.

  1. Select "Yes" under "Will you attend?" (or select "Change" RSVP to add more guests if you've already purchased ticket(s))

  2. Enter the number of guests coming and click "Finish RSVP"

  3. Click "Pay Now" (or "Pay Online Now") at the top of the event posting near the ticket price per person

  4. Verify correct dollar amount for number of people you're paying for. Modify if appropriate, click "Pay Now" or "Check Out" button

  5. If you don't have a PayPal account, click "Pay with a Debit or Credit Card"

  6. If you have a PayPal account, simply log in, and pay as you normally would via Paypal

Event Check-in

I will have a master list of all those that have paid.

Refund Policy

Since we pay in advance for this event, all sales are final unless the event is canceled or rescheduled. If the event is canceled or rescheduled, an UPDATE will be posted at the top of the event posting, and the UPDATE will also be sent as an email to the yes RSVPs. A full refund will be submitted no later than Wednesday of the following week. For rescheduled events, you must let us know within 3 calendar days of the UPDATE email if you are unable to make the new date... no refunds will be given after that time. Thanks for understanding. =)

Ticket Resell

Similar to a concert ticket or a football game ticket, you are free to sell your ticket to someone else if you are unable to attend. I suggest posting in the comment box for the event, that you have a ticket for sale. Work out payment between yourselves, and have the seller only send the organizer a "message" through their Meetup profile (do not comment in the comment box of the event posting) letting me know the first AND last name, and Meetup profile URL (if a member) of the person taking your spot (please also copy them on the message). I host a lot of events and groups, so please let me know the event name and group name the ticket transfer is for. You must let me know by the RSVP close time of 5pm on the day of the event.

Special Needs

If you have any special needs (e.g. wheelchair, dietary for events with food included, etc.), let us know in advance (a week or more before the event) and we will do our best to accommodate (message me through my Meetup profile). If you let us know the day of the event, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to help. Thank you for understanding and we appreciate the courtesy of a heads up!

Open Bar

To keep drink lines moving as efficiently as possible and to be fair to everyone, we have a 1 drink per person at-a-time policy for open bar. You may order multiple drinks at once, but each person it goes to must be present in line.

Be Responsible

You must be of legal drinking age (21+) to attend this event. We are committed to responsible drinking and behavior, so for your own safety and others, please know your limits! Don’t drink and drive, and please be courteous towards others. We've put significant measures in place, and hired first rate security to help see the success of our event to the very end. We want everyone to have a good time, but in compliance with state liquor law, those overintoxicated, belligerent, or unruly will be removed immediately from the event and our group. As a last resort, either we or the venue will have to terminate the event should public safety be threatened.
