Visit to Seaton Valley Countryside Park.
Details
We will meet at 10.00 am at the gates to the beach, opposite The Beach House, in Seaton.
Walking across the road, we will access the countryside park through the wooden gates beyond the car park. This is an easy tree-lined valley walk meandering alongside the Seaton River all the way to Hessenford and back.
Seaton Valley Countryside Park is the newest of Cornwall's four country parks and covers over 53 hectares. There are various habitats to explore, including a semi-ancient woodland, wet grassland, and the river corridor. It is a great spot for watching various wildlife such as otters, kingfishers, dormice, and fritillary butterflies.
Other facilities include: outdoor gym, sensory garden, picnic area with benches and newly built toilet facilities.
In July 2005, it became Cornwall's first Green Flag Local Nature Reserve and Countryside Park.
Depending on the tide on our return to Seaton, we can walk to Downderry and enjoy a drink in The Inn on the Shore or stay in Seaton where there are café, pub and restaurant options.
Distance: Approx. 4 miles
Footwear: Walking boots or shoes.
Dogs, which are well-behaved, are always welcome on our walks. A lead is necessary on the road access to, and from, the park and around the waterfowl. Seaton beach is dog-friendly all year round.
You are respectfully reminded that this walk is near water and that you walk at your own risk. I personally believe it is sensible to carry water, a 24-hour first aid kit, a hat, waterproof, and sunscreen, but I leave that to your discretion.
