The North Cornwall Book Festival runs from the 21st until the 24th of September in St Endellion, a tiny hamlet on the North Cornwall coast just above Port Isaac. I thought it would be fun to attend some events on Saturday September 23rd, with lunch in between.

I plan to be there no later than 9:45am, to attend the 10am event in the main marquee (hopefully I will arrive earlier and be inside the tent already by then, but I'm not a very good morning person!) I will share my contact information with those who have RSVP'd "yes" the day before, so that we can find each other on the day :-)

I have booked tickets for the following events in the main marquee (as of August 13th, they all had tickets still available):

10am: Cream of Cornish 2023, a cabaret of readings by exciting writers with Cornwall in their work or lives. Tickets are free.
11:30am: Natalie Haynes talking about "Divine Might: Goddesses in Greek Myth", her hot off the press survey of the potent figures she portrayed in her recent bestselling novel, Stone Blind, which you can read a sample of here. Tickets are £10.
2:30pm: Laura Cumming, chief art critic of The Observer since 1999 and author of bestselling memoir "On Chapel Sands" (which you can read a sample of here). Tickets are £10.

Tickets for Ann Cleeves at 1pm are sadly already sold out :( However, this gives us an opportunity to head to The Festival Café for lunch at that time.

Please feel free to join me at these events, or check out the full programme to see if there's anything else you'd like to see! Hopefully we will all be able to meet for lunch at 1pm.

I haven't scheduled anything for myself after 4pm, but there are more speakers and also an evening dinner then concert with singer-songwriter Charlie Dore accompanied by Julian Littman, so of course please feel free to book tickets for more than the above! There's also the option of heading to Port Isaac to explore and have dinner before heading home.

If you're interested in doing something specific in the evening, please add a comment or message me :-)

To book your tickets: Go to the website: https://ncornbookfest.org and click on "What's On" then click on each event and select "Book" to add it to your cart. You can also find excellent information about the event, how to get there, and so on via the website. Don't wait too long as tickets for some events have already run out.

There is ample free parking available adjacent to the festival site - the website states that the postcode is PL29 3TP and that signs will direct you to the car park. You can also find information on other travel methods, and on mobility access, on the "Your Visit" page here: https://ncornbookfest.org/your-visit/

Addendum: I forgot to mention a few things!

  • There are also workshops and professional sessions, which are a bit more expensive but may be of interest to budding authors in particular!
  • There is a "Book Festival Market" in the Church carpark. Alongside the Padstow Bookseller, there will be a range of stalls from local companies and charities where you can browse between events.
  • There is also an exhibition by artists Jenny Beavan and Lar Cann, which will take place in the St Endellion Hall and Church.
