We will meet at 10.00am, and start walking, from the bottom car park. You may wish to visit the engine houses, quays and limekilns on your return and also the little café with both indoor and outdoor seating. This will be a counter-clockwise, circular walk towards Calstock. This is where Cornwall's largest Roman fort once stood, the Vikings allied with the Cornish to fight off the Saxons, and more recently railway wagons were lifted over 100ft by steam power from the quay to the top of the viaduct. There are lovely views along the River Tamar on this outward stretch. The way back is through the woods and you may wish to visit the Tudor House and Gardens separately.

Distance 4-5miles

Steepness grade: Moderate

Recommended footwear: Walking shoes or trainers in summer; walking boots in winter.

Dogs, that are well-behaved, are always welcome on our walks. There are no stiles or fields with livestock on this walk. It will be necessary to put dogs on leads for some sections (the roads around Calstock are reasonably busy, and potentially along the river due to wildlife).

You are respectfully reminded that you walk at your own risk. I personally believe it is sensible to carry water, a 24-hour first aid kit, a hat, waterproof, and sunscreen, but I leave that to your discretion.
