About the talk:

The Internet of Things is taking off in just about every industry from farming to industrial to building management. But we still have yet to see that "killer app" for the smart home. I'll talk about how smart home, wearable and digital health devices alongside artificial intelligence will keep us out of the hospital and healthier at home.

About the speaker:

Sean Lorenz (https://www.linkedin.com/in/seanlorenz?authType=NAME_SEARCH&authToken=GB8P&locale=en_US&trk=tyah&trkInfo=clickedVertical%3Amynetwork%2CclickedEntityId%3A1030386%2CauthType%3ANAME_SEARCH%2Cidx%3A1-1-1%2CtarId%3A1469536326816%2Ctas%3Asean) is Founder & CEO of Senter, a startup creating an IoT cognitive assistant for longer and healthier aging in place. Dr. Lorenz was recently the Director of IoT Market Strategy for LogMeIn’s IoT platform as well as cofounder of the TechStars robotics startup Neurala. He has shaped business models and product strategies in several emerging markets including IoT, robotics, artificial intelligence and healthcare. He holds a PhD in Cognitive & Neural Systems from Boston University and has extensive knowledge in digital health, natural language processing, brain-computer interfaces, adaptive systems, neuroscience-based computational algorithms, and context-aware computing.

Robert will give a talk on how IOT is changing the economy at the industry and GDP level and promoting productivity growth.

About the speaker:

Robert B. Cohen (https://www.linkedin.com/in/robertcohen2008?authType=NAME_SEARCH&authToken=f8x4&locale=en_US&trk=tyah&trkInfo=clickedVertical%3Amynetwork%2CclickedEntityId%3A720875%2CauthType%3ANAME_SEARCH%2Cidx%3A1-2-2%2CtarId%3A1469542714796%2Ctas%3Acohen) is a senior fellow at the Economic Strategy Institute where he heads a new study, “The economics and business impacts of the “New IP,” on cloud computing, SDN, NFV, big data and the Internet of Things. This project will evaluate whether cloud computing and the concomitant reorganization of the workplace will result in revenue gains, productivity improvements and employment and output benefits. In pursuing this analysis, Dr. Cohen is also contributing to the OECD’s digital data innovation initiative and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation’s work on entrepreneurship and jobs. He is a long-term participant in the Innovation for Jobs organization headed by Vint Cerf and David Nordfors. Dr. Cohen has previously served as Director of TM Forum’s Enterprise Cloud Leadership Council. He created New York State’s first high tech strategy and has consulted to the European Commission’s Directorate General XIII on the internet and economic growth. He is a past president of the Forecasters Club of New York. Dr. Cohen holds an MA and Ph.D. in economics from the New School for Social Research and a BA from Swarthmore College. He is the author, co-author or co-editor of five books.
