Volunteer with Friends: Repack Project

Details

Want to give back and hang out with friends? We're going to help out the Emergency Food Network on Saturday, June 7th. You'll need to fill out a volunteer application, but I'll print out a bunch of those and bring them on the day. Below are the details from the Emergency Food Network.

***

Thank you for signing up to volunteer at Emergency Food Network! Your group will help repackage bulk food items into smaller, family-sized portions or sort and pack rescued produce for distribution to food pantries. With your help, we can provide Pierce County with a consistent, diverse, and nutritious food supply so that no person goes hungry.
All volunteers over the age of 18, must fill out the volunteer application prior to volunteering attached to this email. The minimum age to volunteer is 12 with a parent/guardian, and 16 without. Volunteers under 18 must bring with them a completed Parental Consent Form, also attached to this email. If you have previously filled out a volunteer application, you do not need to fill it out again.
You can create a profile in our online portal. It will allow you to sign up for future EFN volunteer events.
Volunteer Mask Policy (as of 3/12/22): Volunteers will not be required to wear masks, except for when they are repacking open food (in Repack Room or packing produce). Please let us know if the organization you are volunteering with requires masks, and our staff working with you will comply.
Date and Time: Saturday, June 7th, 12:00 pm-2:00 pm
Where: EFN Distribution Center, 3318 92nd Street South, Lakewood, 98499
Parking is available on-site and across the street, you will enter from the side door on 92nd St.
Volunteers Needed: 8-15
Attire:

  • Face coverings are required at all times in the Repack Room.
  • Closed-toe shoes are required. Volunteers in flip-flops or sandals will be unable to repack.
  • If open food is being repacked, hair nets will be required – you are welcome to bring a hat to wear instead.
  • Dress for the weather, if it is cold outside it will be cold in the warehouse.

Safety:

  • No running in the warehouse at any time.
  • Do not stand or walk on wooden pallets. These break easily and you may become injured.

Qualifications:

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds either individually or with a partner.
  • Ability to bend down to grab the produce out of bins that are at floor level.
  • We ask volunteers who have a cold or illness that can be spread by coughing, sneezing, or touching to please stay at home.

Please contact me with any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you at the Repack Project!
