Thanks to your amazing response, our first few Mahjong events have been incredibly popular. Because so many of you want to dive into this fantastic game, we are officially separating our gatherings into two distinct events so everyone gets the perfect experience:
- Mahjong 101: Exclusively for absolute beginners, those who have never touched a tile, or anyone needing a thorough refresher.
- Open Play Nights: For players who already know the basics, can set up a table, and are ready to play full, independent games. See our Meetup Events Page for the Open Play night!
## This Event: Mahjong 101 (Learning & Refreshers Only)
If you’re looking to learn the ropes without any pressure, you are in the right place! This dedicated session is designed to get you completely comfortable and prepared to graduate to our Open Play nights.
Come learn the history of the game, how to identify the beautiful tiles, how to build the wall, and basic Hong Kong/Chinese style gameplay.
Not ready to play a hand yet? You are more than welcome to come hang out, watch, and learn by observing! I will have two full sets ready for guided practice play.
### The Deets:
- Time & Place: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM @ SoberAF (Tacoma's premier alcohol-free bottle shop!)
- Cost: FREE to attend! There is no fee to play. We just ask that you please support our amazing hosts by purchasing some of their delicious NA drinks while you learn.
- Format: Dedicated teaching and practice tables only. Space is first-come, first-served for hands-on play, but everyone is welcome to watch and rotate in!
- Food & Snacks: This is a BYO Food event. Feel free to bring snacks or order delivery from a nearby business (just please clean up your space afterward!).
