Advanced Aframe, bringing webVR to the next level

Details

You came to a workshop or two, you already learned a bit about Aframe. Now you want to know a lot more. How to do networking, how to add AIs, how to animate meshes, etc. It's all possible but requires a bit more dedication so let's try!

Theme "Componify everything!"

Aframe key advantage compared to three.js is the ability to grow and compose thanks to components (https://aframe.io/docs/0.3.0/core/). There are few core components and some more made by the community. If we want to make Aframe grow even more and thus extend it for ourselves and others we need to make more components.

Process : list the existing components outside of cores and... make whatever we believe is missing, eventually help or motivate people who already made nice threejs useful bits of code and transform them as Aframe components

Once done we would enrich the registry : https://github.com/aframevr/aframe-registry

Components sorted by priority

• A-painter graffiti (text input) brush

• Speech to command as a component

• IoT as a component

Details http://vrlab-brussels.info/wiki/Workshops/Upcoming#AdvancedAframe with links.

Start with the basic anatomy of a component then how to transform an existing piece of code to a component (https://aframe.io/docs/0.3.0/core/component.html#write-a-component) and using it then, depending on the number of participants, split in groups and work on different new components and hopefully have some new ones to share back at the end of the session

Suggestions for dates and materials welcomed until we decide on something more specific.
