Sura 16 Aya 96

What is with you passes away, whereas that which is with God is enduring. And We shall give to those who patiently persevere their reward according to the best they did.

Human beings have a special gift: deep down in their souls, everyone believes they want to make a lasting contribution; they want to make a difference in the world. This is the voice of the Divine Spirit in the human being. There is another side to the human being: the self-centeredness, the desire for quick gratification. This is the ego side of the human being.

For the majority, the life of the lower-self has become normal. The idealism and the dreams of doing good have receded. They are caught up in a daily routine focused on their own wants.

This aya is reminding us of this distinction. You can live a great life, a life of lasting significance, by changing your focus from the humdrum and the trivial to the lasting values espoused by God. How to set priorities that will elevate your life’s purpose is the topic of our meeting.
