Ruby Drills: Adapting to Complexity
Complexity in software development can be frightening. When you're starting out, there's so much to learn and things keep changing. Can you ever get caught up? Will this ever seem easy? In this talk, we'll explore the science of complexity and, in it, find some ways to cope. We'll touch on simplicity, practice, and mastery. You'll get to try out Ruby Drills as a way to master parts of the Ruby API's. Join us and see that complexity doesn't have to be scary...it can be powerful and beautiful.
Bobby first started building web applications in 1998 while studying chemical engineering at Florida State. After discovering a love for solving problems with code, he switched his major to computer science, stuck around for a Master's degree, and never stopped learning. He has built software for Lockheed Martin, NASA, GE Global Research, ThoughtWorks, and DRW Trading Group. He co-founded three startups and just joined another, Outpace Systems. His tools of choice these days are Clojure, Ruby, Bash, and Java, pretty much in that order. When not building tools for businesses, Bobby builds tools to help people learn and explore complex systems. You can find him on Twitter @bobbynorton (http://twitter.com/bobbynorton).
