• Organizations are continuously looking for a solution to make critical decisions faster on a daily basis. The advent of HPC, MPP and Hadoop based platforms solved great problems for over two decades but businesses today are still looking for new solutions to improve their bottom line.

Airbnb, Alibaba, Cisco, eBay, Hulu, Lyft, Netflix, Nielsen, PayPal, SK Telecom, Yahoo & Walmart are all using a new technology to solve their analytical problems of today - Apache Druid. It is a different kind of operational data store that provides all functions of a search, time series and analytical databases but also filling in the gaps to create a more holistic, scalable and faster solution.

In this discussion, we will touch on what use cases were solved by Druid and its architecture that powers a large scale, more granular level type analytics.

About the Speaker: Rommel Garcia
Rommel Garcia is currently the Director of Solutions Engineering at Imply, a company founded by the same people that created Druid. He is an author of the book Virtualizing Hadoop - How to install. Deploy, and Optimize Hadoop in Virtualized Infrastructure. In the last 10 years, he had worked on Data Management both on-prem and in the cloud, distributed systems, Big Data analytics, and hardware accelerated analytics using GPUs.

About the Speaker: Paul Lo has 6+ years of programming experience and 3 years of experience in data science and machine learning. He currently leads several key analytics projects in Uber Philippines for APAC Community Operation team and collaborates closely with San Francisco, Singapore, and India. Prior to the job, he graduate from National Taiwan University with a master degree, worked in technology companies in Taipei and Shanghai.
