Let's try one of the suggestions from Joe and walk a trail at the Historic Yates Millpond park. This is a Wake County park (http://www.wakegov.com/parks/yatesmill/Pages/default.aspx) which is set on the site of a restored mill.
There are several trails of differing lengths on the property.
It is very easy to get there as it is on Lake Wheeler Road south of Raleigh.
Cancelled if raining 1/2 hour beforehand.
Note: Afterwards, Roger will be heading to Barry's Cafe (http://www.barryscafe.com/) at Swift Creek for a late lunch and would be happy to have company.
Directions to Barry's: To get to Barry's, we will take a right onto Lake Wheeler and then take an immediate right onto Yates Millpond Road. This is a delightful drive through the country for about 3-4 miles. At the intersection with Tryon Road, take a left onto Tryon, and merge to the left immediately to Campbell Road (left turn lane.) Turn left onto Campbell and the Swift Creek Shopping Center will be on your right. Barry's is near the FoodLion.
Barry's Café opened on May the 19th, 1992 with only 50 seats in the Swift Creek Shopping Center of Cary, NC. The owner Barry Doyle had only a couple things in mind and those were to provide the community with a family restaurant that people would think of as their second home, not to overcook the burgers. Barry’s desire was to provide the community with a homemade breakfast and great hamburgers and hot fries. The restaurant's mission was to make each person happier than when they first came in the door. Barry did this by later learning over 3500 names of his customers. The original hours were from 5:30 am to 3 pm Monday through Saturday. see more (http://www.barryscafe.com/)
Catherine painted this Yates Mill in oils in 1983 BEFORE the mill was restored...
