Adventure awaits us in "Travels with my Aunt" by Graham Greene

In his novel Travels with my Aunt, Graham Greene takes us on a hilarious journey across Europe with two marvelous characters. One is Henry Pulling, a middle aged English bank manager who has taken early retirement, which he spends tending to his flower garden and his elderly mother. When she dies, at her funeral he meets the second character, his Aunt Augusta, whom he has not seen since he was a child and she was a young woman. Although their personalities could not be more unlike, they immediately form a bond. She tells him that his parents were not who he thought they were. He goes with her to her home in Brighton, where he meets her African lover Wordsworth. Henry and Augusta then set off on a trip to the Continent, including passage on the Oriental Express from Paris to Istanbul. Along the way, he learns more about her fantastic life and they engage in escapades of a nature far beyond the former passive life experience of the staid Henry.
