Overview

So you've got your awesome JS application and you want to send it to a friend to do some work on. Or, maybe you're onboarding a new employee or team member that will start contributing. Either way applications require more than just code. They rely on their environment, third party libraries, and may even require certain system level packages.

Docker allows you to package an application with all of its dependencies into a standardized unit, called a container.

In this talk Jesse Adametz, Cloud Operations Engineer at Invoca, will walk us through how to setup a JavaScript development environment from scratch using Docker. You'll learn what Docker it is, how it's used to benefit companies in their workflows and deployment cycles, and how you can "containerize" your application to start leveraging Docker as well.
