~Campaign Setting Details~

The south eastern portion of the continent is widely known as "The Consortium". It is a land where entrepreneurs come to cast their lot into either riches or ruin. A place where it doesn't only matter what you know, but whom. No King sits atop a golden throne, no church enforces its beliefs upon the masses. Instead, the common folk enjoy a simple and mildly comfortable existence underneath the ever watchful eye of their perspective Barons.

The Six Baronies of the Consortium are a collection of human families each with recognized noble lineage and hereditary titles that reputable historians have been able to trace back to the region's original human settlers. Every family controls a considerable portion of land with which they award to their vassals for a lifetime of loyalty and service. Although open warfare between Barons has never taken place, some nobles foster thick rivalries with one another resulting in small border skirmishes; especially after someone ascends into "The Triumvirate".

The Triumvirate is the political regime that governs the independent mercantile city-state of Lodenburg; located on the coast, it is the region's largest and wealthiest settlement. The governing body consists of the heads of three key factions, of which the human nobility is but one part. The second seat is awarded to the guildmaster of Lodenburg's most profitable trading company. The third and final seat is given to the current reigning monarch of the Dwarf Lords; a collection of dwarven clan leaders residing deep within the North Western Peaks which they have dubbed "The Mountain Kingdom". These three entities rule and regulate trade within the city which has long been the center of the continent's southern economy.

The Barons serve a term of ten years, after which they or an authorized substitute (legitimate heir or a knight/dame in their service) must compete in the ever popular "Blue Blood Games" to retain the position.

Even with all of the prosperity, this is hardly a land without its fair share of perils. Brigands and highwaymen accost travelers while pirates fill the seas. Orcs and goblins infest the North Western Peaks while tales of dark forbidden magic seep out of the swampy southern peninsula known as "Hangman's Rest".

Whether you're a native to the area or an outsider from far away lands; it's time to pack your adventurer's kit and dive on in...

to The Consortium.
