One Shot TTRPG – Dark Tomb: Crypts of Aurelian

Details

This is the first in what I hope will be a series of events for one-shot TTRPGs. I am interested in running "game in box" adventures like this one and more free-form games like Honey Heist, Lasers & Feelings and The Witch Is Dead. Maybe we can even do a slightly longer (2-3 sessions) adventure set in a sleepy tourist town where you are all senior citizens solving crimes (Brindlewood Bay is a dark cozy game - very Golden Girls meets Agatha Christie meets Cthulhu).

What is a TTRPG?
TTRPG stands for table-top role playing game. You’ve probably heard of Dungeons & Dragons, Shadowrun or Vampire: The Masquerade. While these are all really fun creative, collaborative storytelling adventures – they also tend to be really long. Like games could run a year or more and some of us just don’t have time for that or we aren't sure we are going to like this game format enough to sign up for weekly meetings.

Which brings us to “one-shot”…i.e. adventures designed to be played in one or two sessions. Since these are shorter, there may be pre-designed characters, a pre-scripted adventure or less complex game mechanics than some of the classics that can have upwards of 10+ instruction and reference manuals.

About Dark Tomb: Crypts of Aurelian
This is an adventure in a tin – literally. Four pre-made characters and three maps/phases of a quest and all designed to be played in about two hours.

Backstory:
The sun has not risen over the city of Gorriah in a decade. Pestilence runs rampant and rations have dwindled to mere scraps.

Deep below the city’s surface lies the dark and cursed Crypts of Aurelian, where the most evil and destructive creatures have been laid to rest.

Some believe that the city’s hard luck truly began almost 200 years ago with the entombment of Oram, the most insidious and vicious executioner of his era.

There are rumors that he was buried with the Amulet of Fire, a magical object so powerful it is not safe in the hands of any mortal. Nevertheless, the only hope for Gorriah is to search out Oram’s burial site and reclaim the amulet -- if indeed it actually exists -- to bring light back to a broken land.

What do I need to do/bring?
No prep needed. I will bring the game, larger dice, and paper/pens for note taking. Just bring your brain and creativity!

About the Location:
I honestly roll my eyes a little at anywhere serving Acai Bowls (apologies if you love these) but never fear – they also have coffee, teas, and light snacks. And most importantly – they have a conference room that is free to reserve so we will have our own little space. They also have a loyalty program which could be handy if we continue using this location.

You can check out their menu here: https://www.rainingberries.com/westchaselocation.

Attendee Limit:
The game only has 4 playable characters.

HOWEVER, I do have all three of the Dark Tomb games. If we get 2-4 additional players on the Waitlist AND someone is willing to be the “leader” and do some prep work ahead of time familiarizing themselves with the game – I will up the limit to 8. Please comment if you'd be willing to be the 2nd leader.
