The Chicago Muslims Green Team (CMGT) is an emerging leader in the environmental justice movement. CMGT was founded in 2018 based on this inspiration in the holy Qur’an, the central religious text of Islam, believed by Muslims to be a revelation from God:
“He is the one who made you Khalifahs (vicegerents, stewards, guardians) of the earth.” (The Qur’an, 6:165)
CMGT is a non-profit, mission-based organization dedicated to raising awareness of environmental and social justice issues while promoting a mindful, healthier, sustainable, and eco-friendly lifestyle inspired by Muslim traditions.

They will introduce us to their organization (CMGT), their mission, past activities and present ones during COVID, and some future plans (i.e. the Plarn Project, Green Ramadan, Save the Monarchs, Waste Detectives, Recycling Electronic Waste, etc.).

The CMGT’s team comprises members from varied backgrounds, experiences and different walks of life, which contribute to creative and innovative ideas especially in designing programs. CMGT's hope and goal is to increase understanding of our God-given responsibilities towards the earth as Khalifahs or Stewards of the earth. We can do this by instilling in ourselves and future generations a love of nature, raising awareness of precious resources available and collaborating with diverse communities towards developing green habits and living more eco conscious lifestyles.

By nurturing mindful leadership, we develop the courage and resolve to protect our ailing planet. Through its in-person and online programs, interactive workshops, and multimedia events, the CMGT supports participants, as they actively explore and create solutions to environmental problems. By encouraging stewardship in our communities, we discover ways to live together in harmony and cultivate respect for diversity. By working together, we will make the world better than we found it.
