Meet, Eat, and Greet -- and meet an expert in location-based services

Details

Dr. Xinru Page is coming to share her work on location-based services and consumer privacy expectations with NEASIST and friends. Join us at 6 PM for a short presentation of Dr. Page's research, or stop by later to join our discussion of privacy and human-computer interaction.

• The privacy paradox (http://www.emc.com/campaign/privacy-index/index.htm): people's willingness to trade privacy for convenience

• The path from industry to academia

• How organizations (like libraries) might design new location-based services -- and persuade patrons to adopt them!

Dr. Page won this year's I-School's Doctoral Dissertation Award (http://ischools.org/the-iconference/program/dissertation-award/) for Factors that Influence Adoption and Use of Location-Sharing Social Media -- but you don't need to read the dissertation to come to the meetup (although you might find yourself wanting to after!). Check out her website here (http://www.ics.uci.edu/~xpage/).

Who should come? Everyone is invited: students, professionals, and researchers; HCI experts and HCI novices; NEASIST members and non-members -- anyone who wants to talk about privacy and information behavior!

Logistics:

We suggest coming to Simmons by public transport (http://www.simmons.edu/about-simmons/contact-us/directions).

Need directions on Monday? Text 617 953 9690.

Questions? Contact us through Meetup or at neasist@gmail.com.
