Azure Synapse Serverless Pools: POLARIS Deep Dive
Details
Bradley Ball will be our presenter on September 13, 2022.
Our meeting will be 100% online as usual. We will meet at 17:30 CDT (22:30 UTC for those outside of the area) to socialize and network with other data professionals. The technical presentation will start at 18:00 CDT
If you choose to read up on Azure Synapse in advance, Microsoft starts at Azure Synapse Analytics. If you are looking for the "Buck Woody" description of Synapse (Buck thinks that he can run the universe using just OneNote and Excel), Synapse is like Excel only more so.
This presentation is a technical "Deep Dive" in Synapse. It will cover topics like unstructured data and how to scale analytics in the cloud.
If you are looking for a Synapse introduction, consider the IDPA Des Moines meeting on September 12, 2022 covering Build a Data Science Playground with Azure Synapse Analytics.
If you are looking for more of a DevOps or "How do I make it work" presentation, consider the Quad Cities meeting on September 14. 2022 covering DevOps & CI/CD for Azure Synapse Analytics
Abstract:
As part of a multi-year project to re-architect the query processing framework in the SQL DW parallel data warehouse services the POLARIS distributed query engine was developed. If you work with Azure Synapse Analytics and analytical workloads then this session is for you. We will review our architecture for SQL Serverless Pools. We will demonstrate how to resize live workloads, deliver predictable performance at scale, and how to effectively handle unstructured and relational data.
